According to the Gartner® report Use a Step Program to Orchestrate Maintenance and Reliability Technology, “CIOs in asset-intensive organizations can use a step program approach to build the organization’s maturity of EAM, APM and related technologies. This research shows how breaking the steps down into EAM and APM stages supports successful deployment of industrial maintenance and reliability processes.”

    • A viable asset maintenance roadmap is similar to orchestral music and requires planning for the deployment of different technology components like “instruments in an orchestra”
    • Organizations that use a step approach of strategies and technology “instruments” are more successful in progressively developing the maturity of their equipment maintenance and reliability
    • In addition to IT system data (e.g., ERP, EAM, SCM), organizations need to obtain data from the Internet of Things (IoT) and operational technology (OT) systems (e.g., SCADA, PLCs, devices)
    • Companies must manage multiple related solutions to complete a viable roadmap capable of solving all business needs, as no single vendor has an overarching solution to enable all needs in all industries
