Linear asset management

Many industries rely on linear assets, defined by length and locations relative to a reference point. These assets pose unique challenges not well-addressed by most Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software systems. Powerlines, pipelines, roads, rail, and other linear assets cannot be defined in EAM software in the same way as discrete assets. Instead, they must be treated in segments and sub-segments, referred to as linear assets. In addition, discrete assets such as transformers, pumps, power poles, and lift stations also require maintenance.

The linear assets functionality in IFS Cloud is mature and proven. It is fully integrated into standard EAM, seamlessly working with standard work orders and preventive maintenance. In IFS's financials and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), these linear assets can be coded to drive transaction costs directly to the general ledger, just as it can with normal equipment objects.

IFS Cloud expedites equipment realization through compatible units in its Asset Design Management (ADM) module and robust project delivery functionality. These features significantly streamline the design of linear and discrete assets, reducing the time and effort required to design and estimate the cost of additional assets being considered and built to add to a company’s asset portfolio.
